Tea for Severe Allergies

Many people are suffering from severe allergies this season. If you have taken all the medications and still cannot find a remedy give herbal teas a try. My two favorite for clearing up seasonal allergies is Chamomile and Peppermint. I add one bag of Chamomile and one bag of Peppermint to a steeping hot cup of water. I do not like to add anything to this tea, but some may enjoy a little honey to sweeten it up. The Peppermint herbs will help to open up your sinuses while the Chamomile will help to relax your muscles. Stuffy noses are only stuffy because the tissue inside is swollen. It is when it is swollen that the tissues begin to produce mucus. When the Chamomile relaxes our muscles it helps to relieve the swollen tissues allowing our breathing passages to open back up. The Peppermint helps to clear out the mucus. You may even begin to cough up some of that nasty post nasal drip that has been seeping down your throat that no one likes to talk about!

If you are really congested and have time to sleep add a little plum wine to the tea after the water has been heated (as long as you are over age) and it will help to relax you so that you can sleep. I like to leave about a quarter inch in the cup to add my plum wine!
