Meditation & Fasting.....

Fasting is a way for us to sit completely in spirit, but there are many things to consider if you choose this path. One of the first things is to analyze your body and what type of fasting it can handle. There are fastings where we just go without something we like such as the one celebrated during Lent. There are fastings in which we do not eat for part of the day, usually sun up to sun down. There are complete fastings in which we do not eat all day or for days at a time. Then there are the most extreme fastings in which you take no food or drink at all.

So how do you choose which one is right for you? Start with what you need or would like to accomplish through your fasting. If you are trying to get rid of a habit you do not want to do an extreme fasting you would want to work with a fasting like the one used for Lent. Fastings in which you do not eat for specific times are used for you to sit deeper with spirit and begin to move through blocks you have not been able to accomplish with daily meditations. In this type of fasting you speed up the change process. Fastings are not good all of the time!!!!! And they should not be attempted by beginners! You should work with a professional who can guide you through the process!

Once you have chosen the fasting that is right for you and your goals, you will next have to decide how many days you need to fast for. Also take into account the type of weather you are in. In preparing for a fasting during the summer drink lots of water up to the point of the fast. If you are going without food or drink be sure to know what your bodily needs are. If you are sick and have to eat regularly this is not a good fasting for you. There are other ways for you to work with your spirit! Also remember the body can only survive up to 3 days without food or water. The point of a fasting is not to kill yourself!

Prepare the day before the fast and the ending day of the fast, the proper nutrients your body will need. When you come out of the fast have lots of vegetables and water. I love green smoothies and many glasses of water! I also incorporate my herbs and a small sweet to help rebalance my sugar levels. You do not want to throw your body off balance as it begins to eat and drink again. Go slow with yourself for at least 3 days after the fasting. Take time to honor your mind, body and spirit as they adjust back to living completely back in the physical plane. During a fasting you are pulling yourself deeper into your soul and out of the confines of the physical world. This is only good if done in balance!

Practice lots of grounding, cleansing & balancing after a fasting to nourish your soul!

When lost in your fasting take time to feel each part of you as you stay focused on your goal! You will reach points of highs and lows as you shed that which you do not want and that which you are working to accomplish! This is hard work! Remember the breath and be very gentle with yourself! You may find that in being in this much raw energy you experience deeper feelings of anger as you cleanse. This is a natural part of letting go, but do not allow yourself to get out of control!

Many blessings, light & love on your spiritual journey!
